Rotterdam Struggles with Influx of Eastern Europeans

The Rotterdam population is increasingly suffering from the major influx of workers from middle and eastern European countries. They frequently live in overcrowded apartments in already vulnerable neighborhoods. Hamit Karakus, the Rotterdam alderman in charge of housing, has said that the government had misled the municipalities with its estimate of the influx of 2,500 such laborers, while the actual figure is in the region of 8,000-15,000.
