Garbage Disposal Increasing in Nature Areas

Jeffrey Huizenga of the State Forest Management organization in the northern Netherlands said that garbage and waste deposited in nature areas has been increasing. Much of this is building material waste which varies from asbestos slabs to fluorescent lighting, but also car tires and waste from illegal cannabis plantations. In one town, the forest management put containers in for the garbage. Huizenga said that so much is dumped that they need to be emptied daily. Discussions are underway to install cameras in nature reserves in the province of Friesland.
